Our take

What does CoinTracking do?

CoinTracking collects your transactions, shows your portfolio and creates tax reports. It is provided by CoinTracking GmbH from Gräfelfing near Munich, Germany.[4] You import via an interface (API), a CSV file or a blockchain address; according to the provider, from more than 400 exchanges, wallets and blockchains.[1] Besides the web version, there are apps for iOS and Android with no purchase price.[3]

It pays off if you buy, sell or pay with Bitcoin across several TermExchange (crypto exchange)A trading platform where buyers and sellers trade bitcoin with each other via an order book.On the learning path: Stage 4 · Step 2 – Choosing a provider →In the glossary →AdLicensed providers with a paid linkProviders from our comparisonKrakenExchange · MiCA (Central Bank of Ireland)Visit Kraken (paid link, opens in a new window)BitvavoExchange · MiCA (AFM, Netherlands)Visit Bitvavo (paid link, opens in a new window)CoinbaseExchange · MiCA (CSSF, Luxembourg)Visit Coinbase (paid link, opens in a new window)All 7 compared – including non-partners →*Paid link: if you sign up or buy through it, we earn a commission. If you only have a few purchases on one exchange, its annual statement may be enough. Costs (as of September 2026)

CoinTracking lists its prices in US dollars and euros. The annual prices depend on the number of transactions:[2]

  • Starter: $49 (€39), up to 200 transactions
  • Pro: $169 (€129), up to 3,500 transactions
  • Expert: from $259 (€219), 20,000 to 100,000 transactions depending on the tier
  • Unlimited: $899 (€769), no limit

There are also 2-year and lifetime plans. Every plan covers tax reports for all tax years at no extra charge. The 7-day trial needs no credit card but does not include tax reports. After that, only the portfolio view remains without a paid plan; new imports need a paid plan. Paid plans come with a 14-day money-back guarantee, and paying in bitcoin gets you a 5% discount.[2]

Security

CoinTracking does not hold any bitcoin, but it sees your entire transaction history. The provider is certified to ISO 27001 for information security.[1] For imports, only use API keys without trading or withdrawal permissions, and turn on GlossaryTwo-factor authentication (2FA)Logging in with two independent proofs, such as a password plus a code from an authenticator app. For accounts with exchanges and Bitcoin apps, 2FA is a must – and SMS codes are the weakest option. On the learning path: Stage 4 · Step 3 – Buying Bitcoin →In the glossary →.

Phishing emails in September 2026

On 9 September 2026, CoinTracking warned about GlossaryPhishingFraud using fake emails, text messages, websites or calls that look like genuine exchanges, wallet makers or banks. The goal is your passwords, 2FA codes – and above all your seed phrase. On the learning path: Stage 6 · Step 2 – Spotting scams →In the glossary → emails sent in its name. An attacker had gained access to several customer accounts at the email service provider Brevo and used them to send fake data-breach warnings asking recipients to enter login details and API keys. Because the emails went through the provider’s genuine infrastructure, they passed the usual sender checks and were hard to spot as fakes.[5]

According to CoinTracking, its own systems were not affected; Brevo does not hold any CoinTracking passwords, API keys, portfolio or transaction data. Brevo’s investigation found that the attacker did not export any CoinTracking email addresses.[5]

If you only received the email, you don’t need to do anything. If you entered data: change your password, turn on two-factor authentication, and revoke and regenerate your API keys directly at the exchange.[5] How to recognise emails like this is shown in Spotting & avoiding scams.
