Our take
Who is behind BISON?
BISON belongs to the Boerse Stuttgart Group. When you buy or sell, EUWAX AG is your trading partner; Boerse Stuttgart Digital Custody GmbH holds your bitcoin in trust.[2] Both are licensed under MiCAGlossaryMiCA (Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation)The EU regulation on markets in crypto-assets. Since 30 December 2024, exchanges, brokers and custodians in the EU have needed authorisation; the last transitional period ended on 1 July 2026. MiCA regulates providers, not Bitcoin itself. On the learning path: Stage 4 · Step 2 – Choosing a provider →In the glossary → by BaFinGlossaryBaFin (Germany’s Federal Financial Supervisory Authority)Germany’s financial regulator, based in Bonn and Frankfurt am Main. In Germany, it is responsible for authorising and supervising crypto service providers under MiCA, and it warns about unauthorised offers. On the learning path: Stage 6 · Step 2 – Spotting scams →In the glossary →: the custody company since 17 January 2025 for custody and transfers, EUWAX AG since 1 April 2025 for exchanging crypto assets for money.[3] What that means is explained in MiCA & regulation.
BISON is actively offered in Germany, Austria and Switzerland; citizens of other EEA countries can sign up on their own initiative.[4]
Costs (as of September 2026)
- Trading fee: none. You pay through the spreadGlossarySpread (bid-ask spread)The difference between the buy and sell price. With many apps, the spread is the real fee – it just doesn’t appear as a separate item on your statement. On the learning path: Stage 4 · Step 2 – Choosing a provider →In the glossary →: for Bitcoin an average of 1.25% on each buy and each sell, more or less depending on market conditions and order size.[1]

- Bitcoin deposits and withdrawals, account, custody: no fee.[1]
Example: if you buy for $1,000 and sell again at an unchanged price, the spread costs you around $12.50 twice on average – about 2.5% in total (BISON works in euros, but the percentages are the same). Custody and deposit protection
While your bitcoin are held at BISON, the provider is your custodianGlossaryCustodian (custodial)A provider such as an exchange or app that holds the private keys for you. - Proof of ownership: once your transfers with your own wallet reach €1,000 in total, BISON requires proof that the wallet is yours because of the Travel RuleGlossaryTravel Rule (Transfer of Funds Regulation)An EU rule requiring crypto providers to send details of the sender and recipient with transfers.
