Our take

What Blockpit does

Blockpit is tax software from Blockpit AG in Linz, Austria, founded in 2017.[4],[5] It collects your transactions via an interface (API), wallet address or CSV file – according to the provider, from more than 3,000 exchanges, wallets and blockchains.[1] From this it creates a tax report as PDF and CSV.[2] A holding-period tracker shows when your bitcoin reach the GlossaryHolding period (speculation period)In Germany, the gain from selling privately held bitcoin is tax-free if more than one year passes between purchase and sale (§ 23 EStG, as of September 2026). Each purchase has its own holding period. On the learning path: Stage 6 · Step 3 – Bitcoin & tax →In the glossary → that matters in some countries, such as Germany.[1]

For Germany, the report uses the FIFO method (first in, first out), takes the holding period and the GlossaryExemption limit (€1,000 Freigrenze)In Germany, gains from private disposal transactions stay tax-free if they total less than €1,000 in a calendar year. From €1,000, the entire gain is taxable. On the learning path: Stage 6 · Step 3 – Bitcoin & tax →In the glossary → into account and provides the figures for Anlage SO, the part of the German tax return for other income.[3]

Costs (as of September 2026)

There is no fee for portfolio tracking. You buy the tax report once per tax year; the price depends on the number of your transactions:[2]

  • up to 50 transactions: €49
  • up to 1,000: €99
  • up to 3,000: €149
  • up to 10,000: €229
  • more than 10,000: €549

For an extra charge, experts check your data, for example in the 30-minute ‘Expert Check’ for €99.[2]

Data protection & security

Blockpit does not hold any bitcoin, but it does see your entire transaction history. According to the provider, exchange API keys are connected with read-only permissions and stored encrypted. The services run on dedicated hardware in Austria rather than with cloud providers, and an external security firm regularly tests for vulnerabilities. Blockpit says it never asks for private keys or access to your wallet.[6] Anyone who asks for your GlossarySeed phrase (recovery phrase)A sequence of usually 12 or 24 words from which your wallet derives all its private keys. Anyone who knows the words has full access to your bitcoin – so they belong in an offline backup and never in anyone else’s hands. On the learning path: Stage 5 · Step 3 – Backing up your seed phrase →In the glossary → in Blockpit’s name is trying to scam you.

For the import, only create API keys without trading or withdrawal permissions, and turn on two-factor login in Blockpit.[6]

What to watch out for

  • Check the data: transfers between your own wallets are not sales. If the software misreads them, the calculation is wrong.
  • Not tax advice: Blockpit itself says the report does not replace individual tax advice.[3] For larger amounts or special cases, a tax adviser with crypto experience can help. The rules for Germany are explained in Bitcoin & tax in Germany; for other countries, start with Bitcoin tax around Europe.
