Orange pill
Community slang for convincing someone of Bitcoin – or for ‘waking up’ yourself and understanding Bitcoin. The colour stands for Bitcoin orange; the image comes from the red pill in the film ‘The Matrix’ (1999).

On the learning path: Stage 1 · Step 1 – Bitcoin in 10 minutes
Someone who is ‘orange-pilled’ has looked into Bitcoin in depth and sees money differently afterwards. To ‘orange-pill’ someone means explaining Bitcoin to another person in a way that helps them understand it too.[1]
Where the image comes from
In the film ‘The Matrix’ (1999), the main character, Neo, has to choose: the blue pill leaves him in his familiar illusory world, the red one shows him the truth.[2] The Bitcoin community has swapped red for the orange of the Bitcoin logo.[1]
The downside
The image implies that everyone else is ‘asleep’ – which easily comes across as arrogant. Pushing people tends to provoke resistance rather than curiosity. And anyone passing on their enthusiasm shouldn’t keep quiet about price swings, total loss and fraud.
