Our take

Models and prices (as of September 2026)

Trezor was founded in 2013, makes GlossaryHardware walletA small dedicated device that keeps your private keys offline and signs transactions internally. The key never leaves the device, so malware on your computer can’t get at it.On the learning path: Stage 6 · Step 1 – Hardware wallets compared →In the glossary → and belongs to the Czech SatoshiLabs Group.[1] The current Safe range:

  • Safe 3 – $59: monochrome display (0.96 inch), two buttons.[2],[3]
  • Safe 5 – $129: colour touchscreen (1.54 inch).[4],[3]
  • Safe 7 – $249: large colour touchscreen (2.5 inch), Bluetooth, wireless charging.[5],[1]

The euro prices are the same figures (€59, €129 and €249). There are no ongoing costs, only the network fees for your transactions.

Bitcoin-only or Universal?

Every model is available as a Bitcoin-only edition at the same price.[2],[4],[5] Its firmware handles Bitcoin only; according to Trezor, that means fewer updates and a lower risk of bugs and security flaws. You can also install it on a standard device and switch back later – the Bitcoin-only editions cannot switch to the Universal firmware.[6]

Security

  • Self-custody: the keys stay on the device, and you confirm every transaction there.[2] If the device is lost or breaks, only your backup gets you back to your bitcoin.
  • Chip and code: all models have an EAL6+-certified GlossarySecure element (security chip)A chip specially hardened against physical attacks, like the ones in bank cards and passports. In many hardware wallets it protects the PIN and secrets if the device falls into the wrong hands. On the learning path: Stage 6 · Step 1 – Hardware wallets compared →In the glossary →; the Safe 7 also has the TROPIC01 chip, whose design the manufacturer says is open to public inspection. The firmware is open source.[3],[1]
  • PIN and GlossaryPassphrase (the ‘25th word’)An extra word of your choice added to your seed phrase. The same words then produce a completely different wallet. This protects you if someone finds your words – but if you forget the passphrase, access is lost for good.On the learning path: Stage 5 · Step 3 – Backing up your seed phrase →In the glossary →: can be entered directly on the device.[2]
  • Backup: 12, 20 or 24 words, optionally split into several shares (multi-share).[3] How to store it: Backing up your seed phrase.

Trezor advises buying only through official channels and choosing a longer PIN.[11],[12] In June 2026, Ledger researchers used a laser in the lab to find a vulnerability in the Safe 7’s TROPIC01 chip. According to Trezor, the chip is only one of three layers of protection, and PIN and funds are not at risk; the hardware flaw can’t be fixed by an update.[13]

Computer and smartphone

The Trezor Suite app runs on Windows, macOS, Linux and Android. On an iPhone, the Safe 3 and Safe 5 let you view balances and receive bitcoin, but not send or set up the device. Only the Safe 7 works fully with an iPhone.[3],[2]

Data leaks

Each time it was service providers that were hit, not the devices:

  • January 2024: a third-party support ticketing system exposed the names and email addresses of around 66,000 customers who had contacted support since December 2021. Phishing emails asking for the seed phrase followed.[7]
  • August 2026: attackers stole data on 13,689 customers from the shipping provider ShipMonk – orders delivered between 10 May and 8 August 2026 to the US, the UK, Sweden, Colombia, Brazil, Italy and Portugal. For 11,742 of them, name, delivery address, email and phone number were exposed; for the rest, name, town and email.[8]
  • September 2026: attackers exploited a flaw at the email service provider Brevo and used Trezor’s newsletter account to send a fake ‘security warning’ to around 347,000 recipients. The link led to an app that asked for the seed phrase. Around 2,500 people clicked before Trezor had the domain blocked after about 20 minutes.[9]

Nobody legitimate will ever ask for your GlossarySeed phrase (recovery phrase)A sequence of usually 12 or 24 words from which your wallet derives all its private keys. Anyone who knows the words has full access to your bitcoin – so they belong in an offline backup and never in anyone else’s hands. On the learning path: Stage 5 · Step 3 – Backing up your seed phrase →In the glossary →. Buy from the official shop, which ships to more than 200 countries and territories,[10] and if you can, use a parcel locker or pick-up point and a separate email address.
